Create WordPress Posts with Images

This workflow turns a SharePoint topic list into fully written, illustrated WordPress articles on autopilot — body copy, inline images, featured image, category matching, and a completion email, all hands-free.

> ⚠️ Self-hosted only: This workflow uses LangChain community nodes (@n8n/n8n-nodes-langchain.*), including Google Gemini for image generation, so it requires a self-hosted n8n instance. A workflow image is included above since previews don't render for community nodes.

Who's it for

Agencies, consultants, and content teams who maintain an editorial backlog in Microsoft 365 and want consistent, SEO-optimized blog output without manual writing or image sourcing.

How it works

• A weekly Schedule Trigger (default: Monday 10 AM) pulls the next unposted topic from a SharePoint list (items where PostID is empty)
• Your WordPress categories are fetched and an AI model selects the best-fit category IDs for the topic
• An AI agent with web search writes a 1,500–2,500-word HTML article, calling an image-generation sub-workflow tool to embed 3–4 inline images
• A second AI step generates an SEO-optimized title, then the post is created as a WordPress draft
• Gemini generates a featured (hero) image, which is uploaded and attached to the post
• The SharePoint item is stamped with the new Post ID to prevent re-processing, and a formatted HTML notification email is sent via Outlook

How to set up

1. Add credentials: WordPress Application Password, Microsoft SharePoint OAuth2, OpenAI, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Outlook
2. Replace the YOUR_WP_SITE_URL, YOUR_SHAREPOINT_SITE_ID, YOUR_SHAREPOINT_LIST_ID, and YOUR_NOTIFICATION_EMAIL placeholders
3. Deploy the companion image-generation sub-workflow and set its ID in the Generate and Upload Image tool node
4. Create a SharePoint list with topic and PostID columns

Requirements

• Self-hosted n8n (LangChain community nodes)
• WordPress site with REST API access
• Microsoft 365 tenant (SharePoint + Outlook)
• OpenAI API key (GPT-4.1 recommended for the writer)
• Google Gemini API key
• The image-generation sub-workflow deployed separately

How to customize the workflow

• Change draft to publish in the Add Draft to WP node to auto-publish
• Edit the agent's system prompt to adjust tone, length, and calls to action
• Swap SharePoint for Google Sheets or Airtable by replacing the topic read/update nodes
• Adjust the schedule frequency in the trigger node
