How it works
- A webhook receives an uploaded document (PDF or DOCX) — pair it with a simple HTML upload form for a client-facing intake page
- A Switch node routes by file type: DOCX goes through the word2text community node, PDF through the native Extract From File node
- GPT-4o reads the text and identifies the document type (e.g., Employment Contract, Lease Agreement, Invoice) and the variable fields that type typically contains
- A second GPT-4o pass replaces all variable content with clearly labeled
[BRACKET]placeholders while preserving the static boilerplate and structure verbatim - The template is rendered to PDF via Gotenberg, uploaded to Google Drive, set to public sharing, and a JSON response with the file URLs is returned to the caller
How to set up
- Install the
n8n-nodes-word2textcommunity node (Settings → Community Nodes) - Add credentials: OpenAI (both LLM nodes), Google Drive OAuth2, and HTTP Basic Auth for your Gotenberg instance
- Update the Gotenberg URL in the HTML to PDF node to your own instance
- Set your target Google Drive folder ID in the upload node
- Point your upload form or client app at the webhook URL

How to customize the workflow
- Swap GPT-4o for GPT-4.1-mini on the identification step to cut cost on the lighter classification task

- Replace Google Drive with SharePoint, Dropbox, or S3 for delivery
